Dr. Dakshina Moorthy Janani is the Founder & Geneticist of GeneAura Pvt Ltd. She received her Ph.D. in Human Genetics from SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai. Dr. Janani is the holder of the prestigious Women Scientist Scheme awarded by the DST, Govt of India. Research interests of Dr. Janani include reproductive genetics and Human DNA variant analysis. Dr. Janani has an experience of more than Ten years in the field of embryology and is a compassionate genetic counsellor skilled in genetic risk assessment and reporting to patients. She is also certified by the Board of Genetic Counselling Level II, India (BCG2021-47). Apart from these merits, Dr. Janani is a lifetime member of the PCOS society, India, and the Founder of PCOS360India Community.
Gene Aura is the vision of Dr.Janani. She mindfully developed and curated the functional aspects of Gene Aura to offer genetic tests that are affordable to people. In Gene Aura, she interacts with patients during their pre and post-genetic counselling sessions and aid in effective reporting and risk assessment. Dr. Janani is also the author of several publications in peer-reviewed journals. Under the IGAP program of Gene Aura, she has conducted workshops and training sessions for students, clinicians, and faculties on Genetic Counselling, genomics, and proteomics. She is the Principal Investigator for the ongoing research conducted in Gene Aura.

Ms Preethi Sundar is an aspiring researcher, passionate about Clinical Genetics. This passion made her take interest in Genetic Counselling. The learning experience as a genetic engineer has helped her gain a broad knowledge in Human and Medical Genetics, laboratory and clinical procedures and proficiency in research skills. She has contributed to research through her UG project that studied the association of gene variants to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and has acquired hands-on experience in various molecular techniques. She is also part of an organisation that helps women with PCOS by providing support and guidance, through which she has gained experience in professional communication and handling sensitive situations. She is a team player and an active listener with strong observational and interpersonal skills. As a skilled presenter and educator, she can help people understand the process of genetic counselling better. She is a dedicated and competent professional who is compassionate and empathetic. She is fully capable of counselling people in an unbiased, non-judgemental way and helping them understand everything to make an informed decision concerned with a genetic diagnosis. Shameli J., holding an M.Tech in Genetic Engineering from SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Currently serving as the Global Head of Personalized Genomics at Geneaura, she has played a pivotal role in the development and success of the company.With a background in genetic engineering, Shameli began her professional journey at Zifo Genomics Research Institute, where she honed her skills and gained valuable experience in genome analysis. Her expertise extends to both wet lab and dry lab methodologies, showcasing her versatility in handling various aspects of genetic research.Shameli’s proficiency as a bioinformatician and nutrigenomics counselor has been instrumental in shaping Geneaura’s reputation in personalized genomics. Her passion, extensive knowledge, and unwavering work ethic have significantly contributed to the advancement of Geneaura’s personalized genomics services.
As the Global Head, Shameli takes charge of managing international clients, overseeing the entire process from counseling and selecting appropriate packages to conducting testing and genome analysis. Aishwarya Venkatasubramanian has completed her M.Tech in Genetic Engineering from SRM Institute of Science and Technology in the year 2020 and her B.Tech in Biotechnology from Rajalakshmi Engineering College (affiliated to Anna University) in the year 2018.. She has been associated with GeneAura Pvt Ltd since march 2021 as the Junior Scientific Officer. Aishwarya handles the Research and Education department of GeneAura. Her research experience included exploring the molecular mechanisms of fatty liver disease and its attenuation by polyphenols and gene expression studies of Polypoidal Choroidal Vasculopathy. Aishwarya has interned in premier institutes and is an active participant in several national and international conferences. She is specifically interested in focussing on the molecular mechanisms of diseases. At GeneAura, she is responsible for conducting research on the identification of Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that contribute to a deleterious effect on certain genes and are pathogenic to disorders while reporting them to patients. She also guides graduate and undergraduate candidates during their internship and training programs. Aishwarya is also well skilled in documenting scientific protocols and maintains the SOPs of the training department. She works as a team with the interns for research being conducted in GeneAura and enables the publication of the scientific findings as manuscripts in indexed journals. Aishwarya has hosted a number of training and workshops under GeneAura and has trained a number of diverse participants including students, faculties, research scholars and clinicians for genetic data handling and analysis.

She has worked in eminent institutions like Christian Medical College, AIIMS, CSIR-IGIB, MD Anderson cancer center, Baylor College of Medicine, Baylor Miraca Laboratory, Colorado Genetic Laboratory, etc. Her expertise includes troubleshooting and reporting any clinical cytogenetic testing for prenatal, postnatal and cancer cases. Interestingly all humans are more than 99% similar in their genetic make-up. From the remaining 1% variants in the DNA bases contribute to the appearance, character, behaviour and habit of an individual. A small fraction of these variants contributes to the genetic disorder of a human.

HEREDITARY CANCER
It is an inherited disorder. Individuals of this kind possess a higher-than-normal risk for certain cancers. Hereditary cancers occur when the mutated genes are passed across generations. In hereditary cancer, certain patterns of cancer are usually seen within the family. Signs suggesting hereditary cancer include:

NEWBORN SCREENING PANEL
This test allows early detection of certain conditions at birth. This can aid the child in leading a healthy, normal life. Certain inborn errors of metabolism, genetic disorders, hormone-related issues, and certain developmental problems are detected using this test. A simple blood test is done which involves taking few drops of blood from the baby’s heel. The blood is then sent for analysis. Disorders that can be screened by the newborn screening panel are cystic fibrosis, β- thalassemia, sickle cell disease, maple syrup urine syndrome, etc. Recommended for newborn babies, screening is performed between 48 hours to 13 days old. However, screening can be performed up to the age of 2.
